Cut Back on Sugar at Breakfast

If you’re serious about living a long, healthy life, you’ve got to cut back on added sugar.

You probably know that excess added sugar in your diet contributes to weight gain and makes you more susceptible to diabetes. But did you also know that excess sugar in your diet raises your triglycerides, fosters hypertension, and causes you to age faster?

Your best bet is to eliminate added sugar wherever you can. For example, try eating cereal or yogurt in the morning without any refined sweeteners.

I’ve started eating oatmeal flavored only with cinnamon and fruit. Today the fruit was raisins, but I’ve also tried adding mashed banana, chopped dates, and grated apple. They all work!

It might require an adjustment at first. But keep at it. Before long, you’ll discover you’ve lost your craving for sweets in the morning. Soon you’ll be saying “no thank you” to donuts, cinnamon rolls, and super sweet coffee drinks.
